The book is now published and available on the Elsevier site https://www.elsevier.com/books/particulates-matter/rao/978-0-12-816904-9 and Amazon.

The image captures many elements of the book without attempting to be comprehensive. Drawn by Dayle Johnson with some help from yours truly. The base of the tree has combustion of biomass, including wildfires. Together with the industrial smokestack and the faintly visible engine block, these are the three main sources of PM. We depict the particles as variable in size. The organic molecule structure is given some prominence due to its role in toxicity. Also mentioned are NOx and ozone (the double bonded oxygen atoms). And of course, the pristine sky above. Notice also the barely discernible face masks in the background. These have special significance in these days of Covid-19 dominating our lives.
